PELLE Makes Its Debut at Design Miami/ 2021

Brooklyn-based studio PELLE made its Design Miami/ debut this year, presenting some of their most ambitious lighting designs yet in a presentation titled Infinite Lure. These pieces are the visions of husband-wife team Jean and Oliver Pelle, whose opposing views harmoniously come together within their work. In Miami, they unveiled four new pieces, including two additions to the studio’s signature Lure Collection and two others to the Be Patient Collection – all designed specifically for the event.

To bring the Infinite Lure presentation to life, PELLE turned its booth into an immersive light installation within a reflective, mirror-clad environment. Within it the organic forms of the Lure Collection could be found juxtaposed with the technical achievements and aluminum of Be Patient’s additions. The overall concept reflected the studio’s ethos by creating interwoven stories that enrich one another.

The two additions to PELLE’s signature Lure Collection show off their hand-casting technique, developed by Jean. Using cotton linter paper, forms are built before being illuminated. Each petal and frond of PELLE’s signature flowers are designed, hand-cast, and colored individually. The new large-scale Nana Lure Chandelier, as well as a one-of-a-kind Lure Eden Mirror Post are wonderful examples of its range. The two works that expand upon the Be Patient Collection, the Be Patient Floor Lamp and Be Patient Wall Lamp, contrast the organic shapes and colors of the Lure Collection with the look and feel of machine-like aluminum, creating architecturally driven light forms. Cast cotton paper has near limitless flexibility, strength, and longevity, making it ideal with lighting design.
